Recommended read with some caution – Four Hour Body
Taking some advice from this fascinating book. The guy who writes it is not a Christian and that shows quite a lot in some sections! However he has some amazing diet tips and exercise thinking that I’ve been giving a go. My weight stays exactly the same right now but I have definitely lost fat and gained muscle. I’ll keep you posted!
I took a phot of the cover on my phone but it didn’t work – grrrr…

A Place Where Diamond Geezers Feel At Home?
The incredibly hot planet Wasp-12b has such a high carbon-to-oxygen ratio that scientists are saying that the planet’s surface may be littered with diamonds.
“You might see land masses and mountains made up of diamonds.”
How common are these diamond planets? The short answer is that astronomers don’t know.
Maybe after reading my new book, there’ll be more Diamond Geezers walking round OUR planet!? You could be one of them!

Huddling – not just for warmth
One of the chapters in Diamond Geezers looks at a man’s Friendships, and mentoring features highly. I’m thinking of putting a study guide together so men can meet together, discuss the principles and pray for one another.
This morning I just met up with a small group of guys in their twenties & thirties, who come to all Ivy Mcr – as I restart a ‘Huddle.’
We aren’t just huddling together for warmth as it’s flippin freezing out there, this is a group for mutual accountability and encouragement. You know the story about coals in the fire being near one another to get and keep the fire blazing? And if we don’t want to end up luke warm, we need to stick close to one another; as the Bible says, ‘let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another…’
About a year ago a few of them met with me together with some others but the group never gelled and ended up falling to bits before it really got started as some members didn’t commit to some of the principles that need to make it work.
The idea of a Huddle came from Mike Breen, who challenged me personally a way back to get more intentional about mentoring others. Click here for a Wiki article on Huddles.
Mike & 3DM have put various great materials out to help gather purposely as a group of people – missional leaders in their own right – he says in the Huddle Book (wrtten with Alex Absalom) “we live in a world that has so idolised the individual over the community that generally we have lost the ability to allow others to naturally and readily shape us. The result is that we have missed out on much of a key process that God established for our well-being: the process that the Bible calls being a disciple…. The relationship between the leader and their huddle is one of low control and high accountability.’
When we meet we catch up, then follow a loose format asking, effectively -
1) What’s God been saying to you recently?
2) What are you doing (or planning to do) about it?
This group of high calibre, fascinating young men today have potential to become amazing leaders and influencers of the future – they are already making huge differences in various settings – it’s such a privilege to be able to meet, pray and encourage them.
One take home from today is that we’re all going to follow the same Bible reading plan – that of Robert Murray MCheyne (who of course himself made a staggering impact for Jesus before ‘going home’ at the age of 29)on You Version, so we’re literally on the same page!
Page Proofs
I have the page proofs to go through now. Looking for misstakes, badd gramma and apstrophe glyTches ect.
It’s full steam ahead for January publication and I’ve started organising bookings for early next year to get the word out, just yesterday there were discussions for London and Birmingham, I’ll do something up here in Manchester too of course.
Anyone else?
Final chapter done!
I’m writing from the USA at the moment having just been at the Catalyst Conference. After some great input and much to stretch my thinking I’m thrilled to say I have finished the last chapter of my new book, Diamond Geezers.
They say the secret for being a writer is to apply glue to the seat of your pants and then get in the chair. Today the time flew by at the hotel (usually post conference I get a bit down just wanting to be home so it was good to be able to have my mind otherwise engaged).
I sat down just after breakfast and the glue worked. I wrote for a solid seven hours (and I’d already written half the chapter)!
Now tomorrow I’m going to read through the rest of the book and check it through. I’m so grateful to Zoe and the family, and my church family at Ivy Manchester for their help in writing this. Also special mention to Ems Hancock who as well as reading through what I have put down and tidying it up has also challenged me occasionally with a well timed, ‘did you really mean to say that?’ question.
With a favourable wind it’ll be ready to send on to Integrity to publish, release date January 2011!
